Schatzi is a 3-year-old, Staffie mix who came all the way from Louisiana (Hurricane Katrina) to find her forever home with a family who adored her very much. However, due to a family crisis where they have lost their home, they are no longer able to care for Schatzi. Schatzi is currently in foster care where she awaits another chance to find a forever home. In her previous home, Schatzi lived with 3 cats, 3 children (ages ranging from 2 to 7), and 2 male foster dogs. She is a veritable couch potato and prefers the company of dogs who share her love of relaxation. She has both male and female dog friends. However, she does not appreciate the attentions of smaller or more active dogs as she has been through a lot and they have a tendency to frighten and confuse her. She adores children and revels in their attention. Please note, hers is a gentle, motherly love and, while she will play with children for short amounts of time, she is more of a mother and protector who prefers to watch her "furless puppies" play and bask in their hugs and kisses afterwards. If the play gets too rough, she will merely move to another room until the children are done with their tomfoolery and will come back periodically to check on them. Schatzi has boundless amounts of love to give. Sometimes, this love includes catapulting herself at you from across the room after a long day's work...but she merely cannot contain her love any further after being away from you for so long. Adults are different from children and Schatzi realizes this. She will play with adults for hours! She's not much of a ball or retrieving dog, but she will wrestle and run with you for hours.
